The Forgotten War: Teaching Korea in the Classroom Teacher Institute

  2. On Tuesday, July 22nd, the MacArthur Memorial will host a summer teacher institute for local Hampton Roads educators on teaching the history of the Korean War and its on-going impact on current global events. 


    In addition to content lectures, this institute will include a behind-the-scenes tour of the MacArthur Memorial Collection and Archive, breakfast, lunch, and free classroom resources. Attendees will also receive free parking and a certificate of participation.


    This institute is free but registration is required. Spaces are limited so sign up now!

    Will this institute be handicap accessible?

    All MacArthur Memorial buildings are wheelchair accessible.


    Where can I park?

    Parking is included! Attendees should park in the South Deck of MacArthur Center Mall and bring their parking tickets with them to the institute. 


    Will I be able to visit the museum afterward?

    Absolutely! The MacArthur Memorial is free admission and open 10am-5pm, Tues-Sat.


    Should I bring a lunch?

    Lunch will be provided for attendees. However, if you have any diet restrictions or concerns, you are welcome to bring a bag lunch to eat on site. There are also several restaurants within walking distance of the museum that provide take-out or dine-in options. Coffee and doughnuts will also be available from 9:00-10:00.


    Should I bring something to take notes? Can I take pictures?

    Notetaking is welcome! Materials will also be available related to the discussion topics. We will be moving between buildings so please be aware that electrical outlets for charging laptops and other devices might not always be available. Photos are also allowed in the museum. Please ask permission from speakers and staff if you would like to take an audio recording of any presentations for personal reference.
