To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the use of the atomic bombs in August 1945 and the end of World War II on September 2, 1945, the MacArthur Memorial will host a special exhibit of 1,000 paper cranes entitled A Better World. The display will open on August 19, 2020 and will remain onsite through 2021. Admission is FREE.

General MacArthur’s mother, Mary “Pinky” Hardy, saw her son as a man of destiny. Until her death in 1935, MacArthur considered her an important confidant and advisor. Every MacArthur biographer has analyzed their relationship to try to better understand or explain the general. But who was she? Did she really go to West Point to be near her son? Was she key to his career advancement? Join Jim Zobel and Amanda Williams of the MacArthur Memorial for a discussion of the life of Mary “Pinky” Hardy and the role that she played in MacArthur’s life.
