By the 1930s, movie stars and brides were the most popular types of paper dolls. World War II challenged that for a time. During the war, millions of women joined service organizations, worked in industry, and served in the military to support the war effort. Their participation was encouraged by the government and by society. Paper dolls reflected this sentiment. During the 1940s, women’s war related uniforms became a prominent paper doll feature.
